Frustrations of a Healer
I look out at the public with hopeful eyes, eyes that see the potential in people, and eyes that see the reality of the complexity of the people. So often I see people I could be helping but am left helpless until they decide that they are worth the time, effort, and money.
The science behind what I do is so monumental that it should be common knowledge and easily understood. People should know that their best chance for living a fully functional and virtually pain-free life is to start working on themselves from the inside, out. Just as no one can force you to be happy, no one can force you to get healthy if you do not want to be.
I understand that at times it seems that our health goals are so large that it is not even worth taking the time to start. I have to let you know it is totally worth it! Most everyone wants to be 20, 30, 50+ pounds lighter and have more muscle. Almost no one wants to loose 5lbs or be able to perform one pushup. But instead of seeing the simple solution right in front of you, you look for the most complex, almost impossible, quick fix, irrational way to your “problems”. This helps justify how you have been wronged by a bad environment, bad parenting, or by my favorite, bad genes.
The good and bad news is that the human genome project has identified the harsh truth that you instinctively know but hope is wrong. Bad genes are not your sole cause of any problem; whether it is being overweight, having cancer, or your singing voice, your genes play only a small part of who you have become. The reality is that you do have genetic material that does have some limitations, but what you do with them (your genetics) is far more impressive of your current state of events than just random chance.
This is bad news for those looking for a pity party, but overall great news as you now understand that you have more control than ever. This means that if you change the way you think, the way you eat, and the actions you take, you can create a better you! Let’s be real, I am not going to pose for the cover of Men’s Health. However, could I work hard enough that I can be a better father to my kids when they start sports by being able to run and actively participate with them? Absolutely!
I know the media has tried to tell us that there is no hope, but quit selling yourself short and figure out what the heck is actually important to you and start working TODAY toward a realistic goal! Start by walking for 5 minutes a day, then every week add 5 minutes more. It can be daunting, frustrating, and you are going to have setbacks but just because you cannot work out three times this week does not mean that you should give up on the whole week. Please understand that once a week is better than no times a week, and that is the truth.
Why not seek help? I love answering questions to help people whom genuinely want to improve their life. Instead of a new 90” TV you could consider buying a 32” and use the rest to hire a personal trainer, or seek professional help and advice from a doctor. If you have more questions my email is email@example.com and I will gladly get back to you as soon as possible.
